This is War, Baby
by K. Webster
Publication Date: February 29, 2016
Genres: Contemporary, Dark Romance
My life had a plan. Until he invaded it and stole it all away. My captor took me and I became a pawn.
His strategy changed and he sent me away to WAR, because money is everything in this world.
In my WAR, though, I found peace.
I couldn’t help but find love where I least expected it, with a man who lived a battle every day of his life
…all inside his head.
But then my captor came back for me.
Yet, this time, battle lines had been drawn and I was protected.
So we thought.
Even though my WAR was raging,
my captor would fight to the death.
The good guys always win, right?
Not always.
All’s fair in love and WAR, right?
Not this time.
Warning:
This is War, Baby is a dark romance. A really dark one. So dark you’re going to wish you had a flashlight to see yourself to the end and someone to hold your hand. Human trafficking, dubious consent, and strong sexual themes that could trigger emotional distress are found in this story. This story is NOT for everyone.
REVIEW
4 Stars
Do you ever start a book and see it going one way and then it does a complete 180? Suddenly a book that seemed like it would be just an ok book turns into something amazing!! That was this book for me.
Baylee Winston is a typical 17 year old. She's got the perfect boyfriend, and while her mother is ill, a seemingly happy family. She doesn't realize that her life is about to change. While being intimate with her boyfriend, Brandon, her thoughts keep drifting to her neighbor and her father's best friend, Gabe. Suddenly a man is in her room, he knocks Brandon unconscious and kidnaps her. When Baylee wakes she finds herself in a cellar and discovers she is now Gabe's prisoner. Gabe tells her he needs money and is going to train her and then sell her. After weeks of "training" she is auctioned off and this is where the story changes completely.
Baylee is purchased by Warren "War" McPherson, someone who apparently had no idea what type of business he just dealt with. When he finds out what he's done he is horrified and tries to help Baylee all the while trying to keep her. Baylee soon discovers that War might just be her salvation. War is different, he seems to struggle internally with everything. When you discover War's past it's absolutely devastating. When you discover why War picked Baylee, your heart will melt. Of course there's also many questions through out the book. What happened to Brandon? Where are her parents? Will she ever escape Gabe?
Like I said, I thought this book was headed down one road and I think it would have worked as a book. But the direction the author took this book was incredible! I loved the characters and the mystery that was woven into the storyline. The ending had me on the edge of my seat and I practically screamed at my kindle when the book ended. I cannot wait to read the next installment! I'm dying to know what's in store for Baylee and War!
